Achieving Your Career Goals

Achieving Your Career Goals What is keeping you from achieving your goals? Many of us start out the year with goals we want to achieve, resolutions we want to accomplish and rituals we want to begin. However, throughout the year many of these goals remain just that . . . goals. Why? There are a variety of reasons. Sometimes we create too many goals to achieve. Sometimes our goals are too broad. Sometimes our goals are unrealistic. Oftentimes though, individuals do not accomplish their goals because of the obstacles that stand in their way. The obstacles seem overwhelming and thus stop us in our tracks. This year, I want you to review your goals with the obstacles in mind. DonĂ¢€™t avoid thinking about the obstacles, otherwise, you may dismiss your goals or feel overwhelmed by them. Define the obstacles that might get in your way. The act of writing down those obstacles forces you to make a plan to overcome them. If you cannot think of ways to overcome the obstacles, reach out to a career coach or others for ideas and help. Sometimes we are too close to the issue to have the necessary perspective. Others may be able to generate ideas that might not have occurred to you. This year when you create your goals, embrace the obstacles. It might just be your ticket to achieving your goals.
